02
Contract with Legacy Asset Services
Once the information has been presented and accepted, you will contract with Legacy to begin the claim process. In some cases we require limited power of attorney, but we always operate on a contingent basis. We don’t get paid unless you get paid.

Have Questions?
Frequently Asked
Questions
Why didn’t the State/County reach out directly to me?
In most cases they did, however, in the event of a foreclosure the mailing address is likely the very same address that was foreclosed on. Therefore, you never saw the notices or the disclosure of excess funds.
What does your firm charge?
Our consulting fee varies on the complexity of the case. Generally, we charge a percentage of the owed funds to pay for our incurred costs and legal fees. However, we charge no upfront fees and that fee is only paid if the claim is recovered. We are hired on a contingent basis.
How much is my claim? Where is it being held?
This varies by jurisdiction and the net proceeds of your property at auction. Some States and Counties only hold surplus funds for 1 year or less until it is released into their general fund. Time is critical.
How did you locate me?
We work alongside various Counties and jurisdictions to connect assets and funds with their rightful owner. While much of this information cannot be found online, it is all publically available through the Freedom of Information Act. Our team works tirelessly to locate families who are owed funds from the government.
How long do most claims/appeals take?
We work with the counties to process the claims, however, each case has it’s own nuances. In some cases we need to establish a probate/succession plan to ensure a successful outcome. In general, it can process as quickly as 1 month to 6 months.
Can I process a claim myself?
Yes, you can and many do. However, there are complicated processes to understand to ensure that the proper legal process is followed. We partner with attorneys on 100% of our cases to ensure an expedient and LEGAL recovery.
